Crucial to the service life of valves, especially when talking about applications in the performance category, is dealing with extreme temperature differences. From sub-zero temperatures in the intake manifold to well over 800 degrees Celsius in the combustion chamber. To make that possible, the supplier uses titanium for custom made valves in addition to stainless steel. Choosing the right material is very important. The Californian company CP-Carrillo is a household name when it comes to advanced pistons and connecting rods. In close cooperation with CP-Carrillo's engineering department, Wilmink Engine Parts lets custom made pistons be manufactured there. New or as exact copies of existing pistons. Because these are custom made, all kinds of modifications to the 'original' are possible: larger bore, a different cut-out for the valves, various coatings as a finish. There is also the choice of all kinds of different sizes of connecting rods, made of steel alloy or aluminum. Feel free to ask for small modifications such as different oil grooves, cams or an inscription on the connecting rod. For example ideal for when a piston from an oldtimer is no longer supplied.
The performance sector is pre-eminently an area where "different" requirements are quite normal. A gasket for a racing car simply has to endure more than a gasket for commuting. For custom-made gaskets, Wilmink works closely with top brand Cosmetic Gasket. Performance gaskets can be roughly divided into two main groups: MLS gaskets and AFM gaskets. MLS means: made of three or five layers of stainless steel in various thicknesses (hence "multi layer"), finished with a heat-resistant, patented Viton coating. Suitable for temperatures up to 250 degrees Celsius! AFM gaskets are made with an aluminum core. Surrounded by a chemically inflated nitrile rubber. Advantage of the AFM principle: no sealant or re-tightening required. Furthermore, Cosmetic Gasket also makes custom made gaskets for us from copper, spring steel or aramid fibers.
